Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hour week (Flexitime)
Reporting to: Private Client Tax Manager
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

Your Opportunity
The Private Client Tax Semi Senior role is designed for individuals who are eager to provide efficient, client-focused, and proactive services to meet the needs of private clients. This position involves preparing simple personal tax returns and Capital Gains Tax Returns, completing tasks for seniors, supervisors, and managers, and managing a small client portfolio day-to-day. The role requires strong communication skills, accuracy, organisation, and a willingness to learn. Additionally, the role involves liaising with HMRC and other departments within BKL on various tax matters.

How You’ll Make a Difference
In this role, you will:
Providing an efficient, client focussed and proactive service to meet the needs of private clients
Preparing personal tax returns and Capital Gains Tax Returns, including emails and reports to clients (which will be reviewed by other levels)
Completing agreed tasks for seniors and managers
Will gain the experiences and start to manage a small client portfolio day to day, including billing and monitoring work in progress
Ensuring that BKL’s risks are managed appropriately
Dealing with HMRC in relation to client matters, including enquiries from HMRC
Liaising with other departments within BKL on payroll, accounts and dividends
Study
Keeping up with Apprenticeship tasks, exams and studies and keeping your line manager informed of your progress
Attending all relevant college days
Regularly review Kaplan’s updates to ensure you have an awareness of any changes in tax legislation.
Other attributes
Assisting Trainees in their work and using them to assist in the initial drafts of your work / to a standard for manager review

Managing Risk
Ensure that files are prepared with relevant correspondence and clear audit trail to demonstrate how conclusions have been reached.
Where there are perceived risks, communicate this with the manager to ensure appropriate steps are taken
Ensure compliance with all internal policies and procedures
Developing Business
Understand and able to effectively communicate the full range of services offered by BKL.
Where an opportunity arises, communicate this to the relevant member of the team so that this can be followed up in an appropriate manner.
Internal Systems
Be familiar with the relevant software and its many applications including accounts production, timesheets and more
Use Outlook calendars and HiBOB to update your whereabouts in a timely manner
Maintain accurate records and documentation within internal systems (e.g. keep a clear audit trail with version controls)
You’ll Be Ideal for This Role If You Have:
At least 18 months’ tax experience
An understanding of the firm’s compliance policies and procedures e.g., HR, GDPR and Anti-Money Laundering
Experience preparing Personal Tax Returns and simple P11Ds
Completed initial training reviews with line manager
Experience speaking with HMRC on various tax matters
Experience completing HMRC forms for clients
Good communication
Accuracy and attention to detail
Good organisation skills
Awareness of budgets and priorities
Awareness of chargeability
Willingness to learn
Self-checking work
Ability to learn by doing
